To days of inspiration: playing hooky, making something out of nothing; the need to express, to communicate. To going against the grain, going insane, going mad. To loving tension. No pension. To more than one dimension. To starving for attention, hating convention. Hating pretension. Not to mention, of course, hating dear old mom and dad.
To riding your bike midday past the three piece suits. To fruits. To no absolutes. To Absolut. To choice. To the Village Voice. To any passing fad.
(To being an 'us' for once, instead of a 'them.')

Interviewer: Trouble, the name of the album; were you ever in trouble? Were you always in trouble? Where did the title come from?
Ray Lamontagne: I had a hard time from 12 to 24. I had a very, very hard time finding any sort of peace within myself, or any idea of who I was or what I was going to do with my life. And I was very reckless with myself at times.

now I see
just how young, how scared I was.
eyes closed tight,
throwing punch after punch at the world.

p!nk.
“Number One: With all the strife and economic woes in the world, religious intolerence, global warming — it boggles my mind that we’re spending time, energy and money trying to ban love:
Well, Wall Street is crashing, and I’m about to lose my job, but I don’t want two people I’ve never met to put on nice clothes, say nice things to each other in front of other nice people, and live happily ever after. It’s important to me in my life that that not happen. Really?
And the courts are humoring this.
Two, speaking of humor, at this march for equality, the signs that i saw; holy shit, they were funny..."but i only want one wife," held by a woman protesting the Mormon donations given to support the ban on gay marriage, which is actually illegal.
But I am in awe and constantly inspired by the ability to keep a sense of humor in the face of illegal meddling and oppression.”

an old favorite.
i carry your heart with me(i carry it in
my heart)i am never without it(anywhere
i go you go,my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing,my darling)
i fear
no fate(for you are my fate,my sweet)i want
no world(for beautiful you are my world,my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you
here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart
i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart)

“And there’s a huge contrast in the media. Listen to Rachel Maddow or Keith Olbermann, and you’ll hear a lot of caustic remarks and mockery aimed at Republicans. But you won’t hear jokes about shooting government officials or beheading a journalist at The Washington Post. Listen to Glenn Beck or Bill O’Reilly, and you will. Of course, the likes of Mr. Beck and Mr. O’Reilly are responding to popular demand. Citizens of other democracies may marvel at the American psyche, at the way efforts by mildly liberal presidents to expand health coverage are met with cries of tyranny and talk of armed resistance. Still, that’s what happens whenever a Democrat occupies the White House, and there’s a market for anyone willing to stoke that anger.”

pet peeve.
i hate it
when, in entertainment news or on music channels, hosts/interviewers/the non-artists say things to/about the famous person of the moment like,
"wow, so you write your own songs?"
"wow, so you sing live?"
"wow, so you play your own instruments?"
"wow, so your song lyrics are about personal experience?"
meanwhile there are and have been thousands of artists who do these things and have dones these things for years. it's the experience that we call "being an artist."
the music industry/community and the entertainment industry are so intertwined that all of the other talent that exists under the radar of the general public and major media is lost.
there are not only ten "artists" who deserve to walk red carpets and recieve nominations and awards. and there are people who audiences recognize as talented without back up dancers and autotuned vocal tracks.

i'm not sure why the twenty-four hour news cycle even exists anymore.
the political news on Fox, MSNBC, CNN, NBC and CBS, etc., has not been news for quite some time.
it's always the same.
democrats try to pass legislation.
republicans filibuster; republicans demand tax cuts for the richest two percent of americans; republicans say things that are not true on camera.
republicans try to pass legislation.
democrats and minorities freak out; people are confused; republicans say things that are not true on camera.
democrats whine, bluff, back down, argue, make speeches. republicans say things that are not true on camera.

observation.
sometimes,
writer of beautifully abstract poetry and/or lyrics = difficult to read and digest prose.
writer of well written prose = simpler, visceral poetic language.
